“Can the Chargers Get their Swagger Back”? After Head Coach Terry Henderson took ill, the 2006 DVIFL Championship team was late coming back in 2007 and the coaching staff was unable to get the players to make a commitment to practices. Coach Henderson decided to come back two weeks before the season opener with a team meeting to explain to the players that they needed to back their coaches because he wasn’t ready for their first game. With no real practices and the first game rescheduled three times the Chargers didn’t have enough players and lost to new-comer Logan Dolphins 13-8. The Chargers struggled all season with no practices and the commissioner of the DVIFL, Warren Gills warned the Chargers all season to take care of the league fees before the season was forfeit. After holding a team meeting to get all the league fees together before the playoffs started the commissioner decided to forfeit the Chargers to a Levittown Warriors team who hadn’t won game all season. The Chargers could have made another run for a championship but it wasn’t in the cards to win three straight Championships in the DVIFL. After the first DVIFL league meeting in 2008, the Commissioner sent a text message that the DVIFL has folded. It was such short notice that it was too late for the Chargers to join another league. When I talked with coach Henderson he stated was very frustrated with how the DVIFL folded without talking with coaches first so we could prepare for a new league. I remember when Philadelphia had their first adult football league, it was all about football first. Now we have three leagues and everything is watered down. Now the players started losing interest after 09 because we waited too late to get into a summer league or full league or an Independent league decided at the last minute. Co-owners stopped us from playing just before the season started it was tough on the players who did all the work in the summer and did not play. I know now that whatever league we decide to go to in 2010 it’s time to restructure the Chargers organization with new an offensive and defensive line. We also need to bring in new coaches and a new General Manager who can do the talking and find a league that best fits us. A place where we can compete for another Championship, with new players who love the game, have a job, who can keep their ego at home. We need to find out who can wear the Blue & Gold and start looking for experienced players starting in January and February, before the Chargers have their open house meeting for all new players and former players. Only serious players should come. The Chargers have a winning tradition in the Delaware Valley and Philadelphia areas and are ready for all new challenges, the question will remain can the Chargers get their swagger back in 2010? There will be mandatory meeting for new players and coaches in March TBA
