![]() Chargers Break Colts! In a game that may have set football back a few decades, the Overbrook Chargers defeated the Warminster Colts 8-2 last Friday night in front of a sparse Warminster crowd. Both offenses were as cold as the weather, with no one really able to move the ball during the first half. The Chargers had some great scoring chances, but had a case of cold feet or should I say cold hands as pair of potential touchdowns were dropped. QB PJ McCray was equally cold and could not connect with his big play-receiving tandem of WR Shawn Foxworth and TE Cornelius Couch. McCray finished the night with 2 interceptions and no touchdown passes. All of the scoring took place in the second half, when after an inadvertent whistle cost the Chargers a potential game breaking turnover. Charger K Greg Cox lofted a high punt to the Colts return man who signaled fair catch and promptly muffed the punt. Johnny on the spot DB Wade Fautleroy gobbled it up - Chargers Ball! Put hold everything, a referee inadvertently blew his whistle, rendering the play dead. Re-kick! And what usually happens after something like that, you guessed it! Long snapper Smoke Dog, snapped the ball over K Greg Cox's head and into the end zone. Alertly Cox picked up the ball and took a knee for the safety. Colts 2, Chargers 0! Things were looking bad for the Chargers going into the 4 - minute warning. With the defense holding the Colts offense in check, someone need to make a big play! That play came in the form a vicious hit by Wade Fautleroy, who leveled a Colts RB on an option play. The hit seemed to ignite the whole team! With less than 2 minutes left and pinned inside their own 10 yard line and the passing game lacking, who would the Chargers turn too? DB/RB Roland Whiting, a.k.a. Speedster. Taking the ball off the left end, Whiting outraced the Colts defense for an 87 yard touchdown. With the 2-point conversion made, that was the game! After two sub par defensive performances the Chargers defense finally rose to the occasion and stymied the Colts' offense all night. With no passing or running attack, the Colts were at the mercy of the Charger's defense, who held the Colts to 3 completions and less than 100 yards rushing. |
