Giants Defeat Chargers

With the emotional drain of dealing with the loss of several players unable to play due to league issues, the Chargers came out flat. The Giants were able to get a quick start attacking the Chargers with two big pass plays to take a 13-0 lead in the first quarter and returning a fumble recovery for a 72-yard TD in the second quarter making the lead 20-0 at half time.

The Chargers were able to jump-start their offense when QB McCray hit (TE) Ed Giddings for a 27-yard TD early in the third quarter. The Chargers defense was able to get a three and out and the offense had another shot to put points on the board when QB McCray found (WR) Shawn Foxworth on a crossing route that turned into a 62-yard TD, closing the gap to 20-13. The Giants responded with a good kickoff return to set up a one yard TD and making a 2-point conversion pushing the score to 28-13 in the fourth quarter. The Chargers continued to fight back with a quick score from (WR) Troy Ham on a 72 yard TD from McCray closing the gap to 28-19 with 6 minutes left in the game.

The Chargers were able to hold the Giants to a punt and were able to put another drive together. QB McCray hit a leaping Ed Giddings for a 42-yard TD. The Chargers went for 2 and it was no good. The score is 28-25 with 4 min left in the game. The Chargers defense held the Giants to one first down and forced the Giants to punt the ball back to the Chargers for a final drive. The Chargers started the drive from their own 35-yard line with under 2 minutes left in the game. QB McCray hit 2 passes to (WR) Foxworth placing the Chargers on the Giants 34-yard line facing a fourth and 3 with 52 seconds left. McCray was unable to connect with (WR) Troy Ham for a first down and the ball was turned over on downs, giving the Giants a victory.
