![]() Chargers Win The DVIFL Championship! On snowed cover field Sunday afternoon, the Chargers defeated the NW Giants 7-0 to win their second title in 3 years.The Chargers defense was the key to the victory, holding the Giants offense under 100 yards and 3 completions. The Chargers defense continued to harass Giants (QB) Mark Jarmon with hurry throws and sacks, making it a long day for him. The Chargers took the Giants running game away, forcing them in 3rd and long all day. On the offensive side of the ball the Chargers were able to move the ball, but were unable to put points on the board due to turnovers and a dropped TD pass. Early the 3rd quarter (QB) Demartiel showed everybody why he was named league MVP when he took over the game late in the 3rd quarter, putting a 13 play drive together, running for two first downs and hitting (WR) Shawn Foxworth on a 17 yard pass on third 12 to keep the drive alive. (QB) Demartiel hit (TE) Ed Giddings on a 7 yard TD pass to take a 6 point lead. Kicker Mark Gonzales made the extra point to give the Chargers a 7-0 lead with 9:08 left in the game. The Chargers defense came out looking to keep their shutout in tack, forcing the Giants in a three and out drive giving to ball back to the Chargers offense on their 34 yard line with 8:05 left in the game. The Chargers offensive line took over the game with a run control attack that the Giants defense were unable to stop until the Chargers turned the ball over on downs on the Giants 2 yard line. With a 1:37 left in the game, the Giants went into a hurry up offense. The Chargers kept everything in front of them forcing the Giants to use their time outs. The Chargers ended the game with a tackle on the side line by (SS) Jade Roane to clinch their second championship in 3 years. |
