The Chargers started the game with many problems. Head coach Terry Henderson was upset that many players were late or missed the game completely. The Chargers were simply not prepared for this game.

The Chargers defensive line was missing several starters giving the Colts an opportunity to make a big play on the first play of the game with a long pass to WR #18 who beat DB #21 Ernest Giddings with a long pass to the Chargers 6 yard line setting up the Colts first score after 4 plays. The Chargers setup and forced a fumble on the Colts RB and the ball was recovered by the Chargers defensive line. After the fumble, the Chargers had the ball on their own 2 yard line. QB Leon Pettyjohn who hasn’t taken many snaps this season due to injury from last season, dropped the ball on his first snap and the Colts recovered the ball on the Chargers 2 yard line. The Colts then had a 2 yard run for a touchdown with the extra point. There were still problems in the second quarter with moving the ball, many penalties on hold calls, and off-side calls. The Chargers also had problems with blocking assignments and picking up the blitz. The Chargers had good field positions but were unable to score. In the second half, the Chargers offensive Quarterback missed receivers on long routes setting the Colts up for another score. The Chargers defensive line stopped the Colts from scoring a touchdown but allowed a 34 yard field goal giving the Colts a 10-0 lead early in the fourth quarter. Coach Henderson put WR/QB Manley in the game to play QB. Manley was able to move the offensive line into scoring position with 2 good runs. The Chargers had a 15 yard run for a touchdown. The extra point was missed when TE Knight dropped the ball making the score 10-6 with 4 minutes in the fourth quarter. The Chargers special team was ready to make a big play by setting up an onside kick. The Chargers defensive player Bettis recovered the ball on the Colts 42 yard line. After the onside kick and a 15 yard penalty for a personal foul, the ball was then on the Colts 34 yard line. After 2 big plays by the Chargers offensive line, the ball was on the Colts 6 yard line with fourth down. The Chargers called a timeout. Coach Henderson called a 63 pass and told TE Carter to make the play. TE Carter called the ball on the 2 yard line but was not covered and was tackled with under a minute to go in the game.
Final score Colts 10   Chargers 6

Coaches Corner:
Head Coach T stated this is a tough loss. We should have won this game. We aren’t doing the work to be the best team we can be. Players are missing practices and think that at game time they can just line-up and play. It doesn’t work like that. EVERYONE NEEDS TO BE AT PRACTICE!! If you want another championship, “don’t just talk about it, be about it”. Our guys need to look in the mirror and see why we have lost 3 winnable games this season. Stop blaming the coaches. Do the damn work and no more excuses!!
